SenX Technology offers three different FirstLook® products designed for different needs. ADS ES 100 - the automotive engine diagnostic sensor, ADS ES 100 - D, the diesel engine diagnostic sensor and ADS ES 300, the automotive injector diagnostic sensor.
FirstLook® ADS ES 100, Automotive Engine Diagnostic Sensor
The ADS ES 100 Sensor is intended for use with Digital Storage Oscilloscopes. Using this sensor to detect and observe pulses in the exhaust pipe and in the crankcase through the oil dipstick tube allows the technician to rapidly assess the mechanical condition of the engine, without ever needing to use even a wrench.
Relative cylinder compression, rings and exhaust valve condition, and even the presence of pressure loss into the crankcase may easily be evaluated in just a few minutes of testing. If problems are noted in these tests, it is very likely that the OBD codes showing on a scanner will prove to be erroneous. On the other hand if all seems well by these tests, the OBD codes will very likely prove correct.
Always verify the good mechanical condition of an engine with the FirstLook ADS ES 100 before proceeding to read the OBD codes and taking the engine apart to swap or replace parts. Use FirstLook to make sure your diagnosis is correct the first time!
FirstLook® ADS ES 100 – D, Diesel Engine Diagnostic Sensor
The ADS Es 100 – D is intended for use with Digital Storage Scopes. This sensor kit contains the same sensor as in the ADS ES 100 automotive kit, except that it has been modified to include a higher temperature resistant hose, a 50’ coaxial cable, larger retaining springs and a hand clamp on the probe hose to facilitate the larger diameter exhaust pipes on large diesel vehicles.
With the diesel engine, a simultaneous pulse train graph from the crankcase, taken through the dipstick hole, and a pulse train taken from the exhaust pipe will tell the tale. One set of data is taken at “cold crank”, with no fuel fed into the engine, and another is taken at warm idle, when the engine is up to operating temperature. Comparing these traces, taken without the need for any use of tools or disassembly, will clearly show the physical condition of the engine and point to any valve, head gasket, cylinder ring or cracked piston problem that may exist.
FirstLook® ADS ES 300, Automotive Injector Diagnostic Sensor
The ADS ES 300 Sensor is intended for use with Digital Storage Scopes. Using this sensor to detect and observe fuel pressure pulses in gasoline engines using returnless injector fuel rails, injector performance can be compared between cylinders to quickly detect problem injectors in a running engine.
The ADS ES 300 connects to the fuel rail through a Schrader valve, and if one is present, again no tools or disassembly of any part of the engine is required to run this test. If no Schrader valve is present most mechanics are able to install one with no problem and proceed with the testing program. This sensor may also be installed directly on several of the volumetric fuel pump testers that are in common use in automotive repair shops everywhere.
